Is it illegal to shoot nude pictures anywhere but eastern Europe ??
Dread, Met has always favored eastern Europe. 72.2% of sets are girls from just Russia and Ukraine combined, 8.4% from Czech republic, 5.6% from Latvia. Hungary, the US and Belarus are all about 2% each, and other countries are 1% or less.
I understand what you are saying and agree to a point, but I don't see Met's photogs going too far out of the way to get sets in these other countries.
There is a huge cultural difference in the way nudity and nude modeling is viewed in eastern Europe compared to western Europe. I live in the UK and I have met very few erotic models from Germany, Holland, Portugal, Italy etc... believe me, European photographers would love to find models close to home and not have the bother of traveling or flying the models to the location, but they are not easy to find. Viv Thomas was one of the first directors living in England to set the trend of shooting in Hungary, and discovered such a treasure trove of beautiful girls willing to shoot really explicit material that every European photographer immediately followed suit. Even when he moved to Portugal, Viv still had to fly girls in from Hungary and Czech Republic. The girls are better looking and have a better work ethic, and don't have hang ups about posing nude.
Rose, are you saying it has more to do with model's attitudes in other countries rather than the home base of Met's photogs? Interesting.
It's a combination of both... say you are a Russian photographer surrounded by gorgeous, open-minded girls, would you pack up your gear and travel to another part of Europe in the hope of finding attractive and willing models, or would you shoot shoot gorgeous Russian girls? :-)

During my 5 year residence in Germany, I somehow got the notion that Europeans were less sexually "hung-up" than that.

I understand that there are lots of gorgeous Russian and Ukrainian girls just looking for the opportunity to pose nude. I'm guessing they are more willing and have less attitude than girls from Western Europe and North America, so the easy option is just to shoot Russian and Ukrainian girls.
... but Met-Art is the world's premier nude site so it should hold itself to higher standards than that. The philosophy section of the site talks about being an industry leader, innovaton, a growing diversity of products and free speech. Met-Art should be going out of your way to discover girls around the world willing to pose nude and to spread an enlightened attitude to beauty and nudity. Surely pushing for female freedom, not just in such benighted places as Iran or Saudi Arabia, but in many other countries is a noble and worthy cause. And having the right to do what you want with your body is basic element of freedom. It may take some effort but I'm sure that if you look for artists and models around the globe you will find them.
And we are constantly scouting for new artists and new models around the globe, Samurai.

It is just the opposite. This is from Wikipedia:
Pornographic production, distribution, broadcasting (both audio and video), transportation, import and advertisement, is forbidden by law in Ukraine.
In other words: the family and friends from models from Ukraine have to use a VPN and probably other tricks to access MetArt. Assuming that a lot of them do not know how to do that, the chance that they will ever know that their daughter, sister, niece, friend appeared on a nude-site, becomes increasingly smaller.
Russia also has a lot of pornsites banned. I do not know whether MetArt is on that list, but I do know that in Russia there is a great taboo on (female) nudity. For a Belgian fictional TV-show about Sex-trafficking between Belgium and Russia (called 'Matroeskjas') they casted several Russian actrices. They declared that the amount of nudity in that show would never be aired in Russia. This was one of the reasons why they did it. They knew that none of their family or friends would ever see them naked in this tv-show.
I think the above certainly counts for MetArt. This is also why most of the girls from Western Europe, USA or Canada are true pornstars. It's much harder to keep it a secret here. We have a culture of shaming, but it is far less a taboo here. In other words: you have to make it your profession, because it's gonna be pretty rough to find a job outside of the sex-industry.
This is not so for countries where sexual content is censored and taboo. You can live and study in Moscow, pose nude in Italy, go back to Moscow, graduate and no future employer will ever know you once posed nude (and shame you for it). Therefore it can just be a student-job (or a hobby, if you will). This is why so many Ukrainian and Russian models are no pornstars. (And why so many sets seem to be shot in a hotelroom.)

Sorry if I seem to be blaming MetArt. I'm not. I think it much more likely to be ON THE AUSTRALIAN END! I had experienced a few earlier non-MetArt niggles. MetArt support has been, in my experience, superb - not the `placebo' support I have experienced elsewhere. Sorry for the delay in response - it is just after 7am Friday here as I respond now.
I cited the above experiences ONLY as an indicator of the `climb the highest mountain' type of lofty statement, to ensure the highest photoset score and determined written tribute to the enthralling Calypso.
MetArt has been - and is - wonderful!!! My only complaint is that I had not discovered it much earlier. If I was able to, right here, I would have a big thumbs up' graphic!!! Thank you all for the marvellous site/network and those incomparable support staff!
